​The Totality of April 8th Solar Eclipse will be met with a collage of spiritual and scientific perspectives.  Our ancestors did not fear the skies. Our own creation story says it is from where we came. 


This post is not about diminishing someone’s teachings, it is only to share what I choose for myself and to be awakened to the significance of this celestial alignment. 


In our Haudenosaunee creation story Sky Woman, Otsitson, had a brother who became the Sun. Upon falling from the Sky World and after creating earth she gave birth to a daughter. Her daughter grows and later dies giving birth to twin sons. Her daughter in death mingles with earth and she becomes our mother earth. 


Sky Women returns to the sky to become the Moon so she could watch over her Twin Grandsons’ creations.  To us, the Sun is our brother, the Earth our Mother and the Moon our Grandmother. The sky event of April 8th is a long-awaited family reunion.  


When the Peace Maker bundled the league of Great Peace,  there was a galactic response to transcribe this monumental achievement of transformation in the minds of war thinking people.  We as Haudenosaunee shed our mongering thoughts of war and transformed to upholding thoughts towards peace. 


The eclipse is a weathervane within time that determines which way the cycles of our historical winds will blow.  That is why we put O’hen:ton Kariwenteh:kwen (Words Before all Else) as our first protocol to each day. This could be a time to shed the debauchery of modern life and rid our thoughts of the greedy, war consciousness that invades our thoughts daily. 


As we reach the solar maximum in a grand gesture like no other, we can take hold of our thoughts and just be grateful. When Grandmother Moon crosses in front of her Brother Sun she will weaken his masculine power upon our Mother Earth in a spontaneous remission of acknowledgement of love for each other.  A longing to be with each other and to remember the love of family.  


Each orb is vastly different but equally important and they are who we owe our very existence to.  This is a time to honor day and to honor night.  A moment in time to face the unresolved aspects of ones’ selves and to seek a peaceful resolve. A time to focus on our reality that we prefer and choose to create. The night and day orbs can only guide us.  However, you choose to spend your day; hidden from the celestial threshold of transition or outside bathing in a solar release of going within to seek your own crossover or ignore it all together. No matter what we choose. This celestial reunion of Grandmother, Mother, Brother and Sister will happen. 


I plan to travel to the western door of our Confederacy to the lands of my Onontowa:ka Sisters. I will hold hands with my husband of almost 40 years and stand with our sisters and brothers in a great unification for 3 days and 3 nights to remember who we are as Haudenosaunee. 


At the threshold of totality, I will sit in stillness under a white pine tree and journey deep within my soul to greet with open heart the great crossover. The path of totality will enter Haudenosaunee territory at the western door and exit at the eastern door in our Kaniekehaka territory. I will wrap all that I am in a complete bliss of gratitude and acknowledgment that in my lifetime I can bear witness to this family reunion. 


Everything we need to live in this life was put here from the moment of our first breaths.  Equally important to me is to remember our Peace Mother Tsiokonsa:se she was the first to except the message of great peace.   No more no less.  Just a big nia:wen’kowa that they did and still do their job so we can live.  


In all its simplicity, I am grateful to live this life in all its totality. The cup of forgetfulness is an easy brew to drink from but to ingest truth in its raw state is the elixir for the evolutionary soul.
